Expertise in food and feed toxicology, risk assessment and regulatory compliance in Canada, the US and EU

Ingrid Hagberg joined Medfiles in December 2023 as Regulatory Affairs Expert and Toxicologist. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition from Carleton University (2013) and a Master’s degree in Toxicology from the University of Eastern Finland (2019).

Before her current role, Ingrid worked for three years at Health Canada as a Senior Scientific Project Coordinator, where she was responsible for reviewing and coordinating risk assessments of chemicals in food. Prior to that, she spent nearly six years as a food inspector at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Ingrid was responsible for ensuring that food facilities complied with the food safety requirements of Canadian legislation. She was also responsible for ensuring food labelling compliance and conducting food recalls.

After working for food authorities and in risk assessment, Ingrid wished to provide her expertise and experience for companies applying for registrations of new ingredients and products. Therefore, she joined Medfiles where she can utilise all of her skills in client projects. Thanks to Ingrid’s knowledge, Medfiles now also assists clients with Canadian related consultations and applications.

Broad expertise in toxicology, risk assessment and regulatory compliance

At Medfiles, Ingrid’s work covers a wide range of areas, including toxicology, risk assessment, and regulatory affairs for food and feed, with occasional projects in medical devices.

“As a result, my days are very varied with many different tasks. I can work on anything from regulatory requirements for feed additives in the EU, to the risk assessment of a food supplement for applications in the US, or biocompatibility of a medical device. This requires quite a vast array of skills and knowledge which I am happy to provide for our clients.”

Ingrid’s strengths lie in food toxicology and risk assessment, areas closely related to her educational background and work experience. Her diverse career path has also provided her with in-depth knowledge of animal feed and regulatory affairs across multiple regions.

“Thanks to my variety of work positions, I have also developed expertise in animal feed, and regulatory affairs in both Canada, the US, and the EU.”

“At Medfiles, our clients have many unique and different needs, so having a diverse background is a huge asset for providing the best service to our clients.”

Professional growth in a supportive team

For Ingrid, the highlights of working at Medfiles are the environment that provides the opportunity for continuous professional development and the opportunity to work with a highly skilled and supportive team.

“Medfiles offers the chance to work on complex and interesting projects in a variety of different areas. My tasks allow me to use my expertise in food and toxicology, while also developing in other areas.”

“The team at Medfiles is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and we are all committed to providing the best service for our clients. It is so nice to be part of such a wonderful team!”
