Client projects with food and cosmetics labelling – service in Finnish, English and Swedish

Tiina Carlsson

Tiina Carlsson works as a regulatory affairs expert in the Food & Feed and Cosmetics Unit at the Medfiles Swedish branch office near Gothenburg. She started at Medfiles in October 2017, and has during the years expanded her expertise from food-related tasks to client projects within cosmetics labelling.

Tiina has a Master of Health Sciences degree in nutrition from the University of Eastern Finland. Before Medfiles, Tiina worked in the food industry as well as with health economics and reimbursement of medicines.

Creating, translating and reviewing package labelling

Tiina is part of the Package Labelling Team in the Medfiles Food & Feed and Cosmetic Unit, and the majority of her work consists of different package labelling tasks.

“We help many clients with creating, reviewing and translating package labelling. During a typical day, I do one or two labelling reviews or translations, and we also quality-check the work done by our colleagues. I also respond to messages from clients and compile quotes for potential new clients.”

The tasks vary a great deal, depending on the needs of the clients and the reviewed products.

“Sometimes I have to check the legality of the composition of a food supplement. This means that I might have to check the novel food status and medicinal status of the ingredients as well as the amount of food additives. In addition, I might translate labelling for meal products, sausages or juices to Finnish and Swedish, taking into account the applicable national requirements for the Finnish market. I also regularly write blog texts and articles for our clients.”

Special expertise in Swedish and foods for specific groups

Tiina’s favourite tasks include those related to foods for specific groups in which she also has special expertise. This category includes foods for vulnerable groups of consumers, such as children, or people with certain kinds of illnesses.

“I’m very interested in these types of products which is why I love to work with them. Thanks to my work history, I also have experience in reimbursement applications. We submit applications in Finland and Sweden to enable patients to receive reimbursement for the foods for special medical purposes they purchase.”

Tiina works at the new Medfiles branch office established in January 2023 in the Gothenburg region in Sweden. She is fluent in Swedish, which is why she is closely involved in projects concerning Sweden and the Nordic countries.

“Fluent Swedish is definitely an asset in this field of work, as Swedish is needed in labelling in Finland too, not to forget our Swedish clients.”

Tiina also understands written Norwegian and Danish and hopes to improve her language skills even further in the future.

Helpful team and flexible employer

Tiina has worked at Medfiles for some 6 years already. In particular, she values the great team spirit in her team as well as the flexibility of Medfiles as employer.

“Our Food & Feed and Cosmetics Unit works great together, and I love working in our active, positive team where everyone is always ready to help each other.”

“In addition, Medfiles supports flexible working conditions for all. When I moved to Sweden, I got to take my job with me and continue working at Medfiles. You could say that the possibilities for remote work are exceptionally good! Medfiles has also been very flexible during my family leave, and I have worked part-time for some time now. Balance between my work and my family is super important to me.”
