“We started working with Medfiles on non medicinal products about 15 years ago. At that time, Orion and Medfiles already had a well-established collaboration on the registration process for medicinal products, and it was natural to extend the collaboration to non-medicinal products,” says Orion Business Director Niklas Ståhle.
Together with his team, Niklas is responsible for Orion’s Consumer Health product portfolio and its development. Orion’s Consumer Health business unit’s products include food supplements, cosmetics, biocides, medical devices and OTC medicines.
“Our team’s mission is to ensure that Orion’s hundreds of OTC products meet the demands from consumer preferences, compliance, safety and profitability. In particular, the team aims to evaluate new products against these criteria.”
Orion also markets animal feed products. Orion’s Animal Health business unit collaborates with Medfiles on feed products.
Help with compliance and product portfolio management
Medfiles provides Orion with a wide range of compliance and safety support for food supplements, cosmetics and animal feed, as well as many other operational tasks related to the management of a broad portfolio.
“Among other things, Medfiles helps us coordinate internal change management projects, review and produce materials for decision making, and support the day-to-day work of our Consumer Health and Animal Health development managers.”
Medfiles has deputised for Orion’s food supplements expert as needed, and has thus been involved in the different stages of the food supplements life cycle, from the planning and evaluation phase of product development to registration and marketing.
Medfiles assists Orion in the evaluation of new products and prepares the labelling for each food supplement. In addition, Medfiles’ experts are responsible for the maintenance of the food supplements on the market. This includes, among other things, evaluating necessary product updates and managing packaging material changes. In addition, Medfiles has contributed to the development of shelf-life monitoring and risk assessment of food supplements.
In cosmetics, Medfiles coordinates safety studies and is involved in matters related to product and packaging changes.
“For feed, the cooperation includes the development and review of labelling. We have also consulted Medfiles on issues such as complementary feed claims and various regulatory studies.”
